It takes a lot of little things to build a layout
I’m making great progress on the York section of the Windsor St Yard layout. But some of the progress is on decidedly unglamorous things.

I’ve been making steady progress on the downtown York section of the Windsor St layout expansion, even with the brief interruption of The Great Flood. I’ll put up a post with more progress pics, and some better explanation of some of the things I’ve done later, but for now, here are a few recent teaser […]
I wanted the next post on the site to be about the awesome progress I’ve been making on Phase 2 and 3 of my Windsor St layout expansion, but that’s not going to be the case. It’s going to be about the flood and drying out that occurred in my basement on Feb 24, 2016.
Some new Maryland Midland power has shown up in York. Back in 2004, I worked on a special run project with Atlas while at MB Klein: Maryland Midland’s GP38-3s. I didn’t buy a set, because I was a broke college student, but I’ve finally rectified that situation.
I’m happy with the progress I’m making bringing the Windsor St yard to life with some vegetation and other ground cover. Here are some recent photos.

A few years ago, I purchased a model of one of the Black River and Western’s RS1. I have a soft spot in my heart for the BR&W, since it was one of my first train rides, but I found I barely ran the locomotive. When Atlas had a sale on decorated shells, I knew […]
The annual BANTRAK Festival of Trains show at the B&O museum is coming up, which means I’m going to have an opportunity to show off a bunch of my rolling stock. However, I realized my stockpile of cars needing weathering has grown significantly, so it was time to do something about that.
My model of Conrail B23-7 1928 had a frame that “disintegrated”, and I finally got around to replacing it.
One of the things that’s been daunting about working on my Windsor St Yard layout has been the sheer amount of track that needed to be ballasted: lots of mainline, and even more yard trackage. I’ve been progressing on the mains, but last night I dove into the actual yard trackage.
