The CRHS BBQ with Pictures

On Saturday August 4th, The Conrail Historical Society had a Rail-B-Q in Marysville PA. The BBQ was held as a way for CR fans to get together, talk, show off and generally be a bunch of Bee-Holes.

The CRHS, in case you don't know about it, was formed about three years ago and is full of dedicated, dynamic people working to preserve the history of Conrail. Historical societies are important, as they are research organizations based around a single railroad. These institutionalize knowledge about such things, preserving it for generations to come. These organizations are important, because as time passes, first hand knowledge about various aspects of railroading pass from our societal memories, and these organizations maintain that knowledge in accessible ways.

The CRHS, while young, has already been very effective in preserving Conrail related artifacts. This ranges from seemingly banal documentation to an entire caboose, the 21165. The people involved in it are all great, and it's an organization that I support, and urge anyone else with even a passing interest in Conrail to do as well. You can learn more about The Conrail Historical Society on our website, TheCRHS.org.

Anyway, enough with the soapbox, I know everyone comes here for the pictures.

So what sends CR fans skipping like little girls toward a train? A pair of CR Blue units leading a train in 2007.

Being the dedicated fans that we are, my friend Sean and I decided to chase after them and shoot them a few more times, since this opportunity does not come along every day (for me, at least). Here they are at CP Banks in Marysville.

When I said chase, I did indeed mean chase. Watch the video. Sorry about the wind noise.

We caught him again in Newport PA. By this time he was flying, and he was gone. Gotta love the PRR position lights. I wonder how much longer they'll last.

We headed back to Marysville for more beeholery, and saw a few more trains. Sadly, they all had horses on the point.

During the My Little Pony parade, some of the more, how do I put this, "dedicated", members headed off to go wading into the Susquehanna river for photos of Rockville Bridge. Photos from this and an earlier excursion into Shermans Creek can be viewed at Sean's Gallery.

As mentioned earlier, we also like to show off. I decided that since schlepping the layout up to Harrisburg might be a bit much, I took some photos specifically for the event.
